With the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 poised just around the corner, early January is stuffed with new mobile phone leaks, announcements and updates. Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung lead the pack in Part 1 of today’s Mobile News round-up for today.
Nokia News
On 21 December, we gave you a sneak peak at what we’d learned about the forthcoming Nokia Lumina 900 or Nokia Ace. More information has found its way out of the development labs.
First, it will be marketed globally as the Nokia Lumina 900, much to the relief of experts, bloggers and users worldwide: Multiple naming by different providers create confusion, and Nokia bypasses the mess entirely – good news for all.
We now know that the Lumina 900 will have the same thickness as the Lumina 800 at 12 mm. We are unsure, however, if the rest of the size dimensions match. We also know, though, that it will weigh in at a rather hefty 160 grams, making it one of the heaviest mobile phones on the market.
The battery capacity we had been told previously was around 1800 mAh. That figure is now 1830 mAh, giving the Lumina 900 a bit of extra power.
We’ll update as new information becomes available.
Sony Ericsson News
Sony Ericsson has already put users and industry experts on the edge of the seat with its interest-building statement today that a new mobile phone will be unveiled on 10 January, seven days after its announcement. The mentioned date puts the release on the second day of the CES.
SE has encouraged nibbles by inviting Twitter and Facebook followers to guess what the mobile phone will be. So far, the Nozomi and the Nyphon are at the front of the soon-to-be-here rumour mill.
We already reviewed the Nozomi, and the Nyphon is on the schedule for tomorrow, so check back!

Samsung News
Samsung rang the pre-CES bell with several tidbits, only two of which we’ll address here. We have one mobile phone model mentioned already being examined for review, so we’re not going into great detail about it on this particular post.
That being said and done, Samsung unveiled its Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus smartphone. Grabbing the coat tails of the very popular Galaxy Ace, the Plus unit tweaks and adjusts a few capabilities of its older brother to present a different Galaxy experience.
Samsung also announced not long ago that due to hardware restrictions, they were not able to upgrade the Galaxy S from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich.
They didn’t mention what they were doing with the Galaxy S II.
Samsung has been hard at work melding ICS with their Touchwiz UI or user interface, and two early adaptions of ICS will be available early this year. They warn, however, that glitches probably exist and that more completely developed models will come later.
Stay tuned in Part 2.
