A new smartphone from Samsung which bears the branding of major fashion house Giorgio Armani, while being based on the Galaxy S template, has been given its debut.
Fashion labels have had a long history of getting involved with the mobile industry and this seems to be just the latest attempt to make an impression, albeit on a particularly high end smartphone.
Observers at Engadget have pointed out that, physically, the Giorgio Armani phone is almost entirely identical to the Samsung Captivate that has been available as a Galaxy S variant in the US. This means it will have a four inch Super AMOLED, Android 2.1 and a 1GHz processor, along with a selection of bespoke Armani content, including apps and personalisation elements.
The one thing that the Samsung and Giorgio Armani handset will have to make it an object of desire is a suitably high price tag. Expect to buy one SIM free for around £600 when it finally launches in the UK and Europe.
An unboxing video of the Samsung Galaxy S Giorgio Armani has appeared on YouTube, showing that the phone comes in an extravagant black box with minimal branding finished in gold. This minimalist design is continued throughout, although a bold logo above the phone shows its origins.
